Puerto Quetzal
The beautiful, iridescent Quetzal bird was sacred to the Mayas, whose greatest achievement lies in the ruins of Tikal, lost for centuries in the rainforests near Puerto Quetzal. Guatemala has the largest Indian population in Central America, and also offers the riches of modern Mayas, including elaborate woven textiles which tell of their village and religion.
